Adobe MAX Euro Invasion

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

We are excited to have Adobe MAX in our backyard this year, right here in Los Angeles. So we’re asking around and looking at speakers, and realized ‘where are all our European friends?’

So we started asking around – are you guys coming this year? Many of them could not attend for travel costs, tight economies and what not. So we think, ‘these guys definitely need to be here among the Flash family’. Enter MAX Euro Invasion (#MaxEuroInvasion on Twitter). Not all could come, but several were able to accept our invitation.

Quote from Richard Blakely, Influxis co-founder and CEO:

“Influxis is bringing you what we call for lack of simpler terms #MaxEuroInvasion. This is a group of a few of our Euro friends (really family: Joa Ebert, Andre Michelle, Ralph Hauwert, Seb Lee Delisle, and Mario Klingemann) who we have invited to LA to hang out with us and our larger group of friends (again family) and enjoy the Adobe MAX conference. TRULY, a Flash conference is not the same without these guys, believe me…

So in short there are no apparent plans for these guys to speak yet, although the possibility will certainly exist, or you can just meet one of them. This is a cool thing for everyone and we are honored and humbled to have them as our guests. Looking forward to chilling out again guys, see you in LA at MAX!!”

UPDATE (9/8/09): Joa Ebert, Andre Michelle, Ralph Hauwert, and Seb Lee Delisle will be speaking at the FITC Unconference. Thanks to the gang at FITC!

So who are these guys?

Seb Lee Delisle

@sebleedelisle

He combines his eye for design and animation with his understanding of math and physics to give his work that extra flare and sparkle. Over the last 5 years he has specialized in Flash games, working with clients such as BBC, Sony, Philips, Unilever, and Barclays.

Seb’s work with Plug-in Media has pushed the boundaries of 3D and physics simulations in Flash, and he is now on the Papervision3D development team.

He is a regular face on the international Flash conference scene, and has presented at Flash on the Beach, FITC, and FlashForward. He is known for his ability to communicate seemingly complex subject-matter in a friendly and accessible way. He is the manager of FlashBrighton, a Flash platform user group.

His talks have strong technical aspects where theory and computer science meet ActionScript.

Joa did also the speed coding at FOTB in 2008.

Ralph Hauwert

@UnitZeroOne

Ralph Hauwert is a dutch Flash / Flex expert focused on creating compelling expressive content for the Web.

Ralph is a freelance consultant and developer on rich internet applications and websites, focusing on Flex, AIR and Flash.

Mario Klingemann

@Quasimondo

Mario Klingemann A.K.A. Quasimondo is what you get when you cross the analytic mind of a coder with the creative fervor of an artist and add a little bit of mad scientist mentality to the mix.

In his aim to surprise himself and his audience he constantly tries to explore uncharted territories in order to discover unseen beauty and unthought ideas.

A key factor in his work is the drive to overcome limitations by creatively repurposing and recombining objects and by this revealing their hidden qualities.

His creations have been exhibited in international art shows and won acclaim among critics as exemplary pieces of net art.

He also shares his explorations and discoveries on design and technology conferences and is lead computational artisan at Aviary.com.

Andre Michelle

@andremichelle

Starting about 10 years ago in Flash4 as an autodidact, Andre Michelle repeatedly pushed the limits of Flash possibilities. He recently gave up his freelancer status to work at Hobnox.com (cologne, germany) as chief developer of an online music application in Flash.

Recording on FMS 3.5 with FMLE and DVR Functionality

Recording on FMS 3.5 with FMLE and DVR Functionality

Before we get started here are the requirements for this tutorial:

FMIS 3 (any size hosting plan)
Flash CS4 or Flex Builder 3 (Adobe)

Source Files [optional]

This is a very simple approach to recording your streams with FMLE on FMS 3.5, assuming you know the basic principals and rules of FMS like creating an application, connecting to it and playing a stream. For more information on this you can read the Getting Started section of the Adobe Live Docs.

Let’s start with the Server Side logic first. Open Flash CS4 and create a new ActionScript Communication File, or you can use any ActionScript editor that supports AS 1.0 logic, even a simple text editor like NotePad will work. Save the file as “main.asc” (an asc file is an ActionScript Communication File that FMIS uses similar to an AS file). Copy and paste this logic into your main.asc file:

Flash on Tap New Dates: May 28th-30th, 2009

Monday, September 15th, 2008

You may have heard rumors flying around…Flash on Tap is NOT cancelled. It will now be taking place in May 2009. This was a very tough decision to say the least, a change of plans is not always fun but in this case it was absolutely necessary in order to deliver the Flash on Tap conference the way it was intended with many awesome people in a great and unique celebration of Flash.  After getting feedback from a great many who wanted to attend, we decided on May 28th-30th 2009, a Thursday through Saturday weekend timeframe instead of the initial midweek dates, making it possible for many more Flash friends to attend.  For those who are coming, plan on one crazy ass inspiring closing party Saturday night, you will have Sunday to travel back home and recover for work on Monday.  The format of the event will remain the same with the greatest line-up of speakers, workshops, sponsors, and pools of beer!

In addition, many potential craft brewer sponsors were tied up with another October event, the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO.  Now with a May event, they are very eager to support Flash on Tap and provide great brew for tasting.

A first time conference with a unique theme, we know this will be one to remember, and many of our good friends are speaking including: John Grden, Sam Agesilas Pastel, Philip Kerman (PK), Keith Peters (KP), Tink, Ralph Haughert, Craig Swizann, Grant Skinner, Robert Hodgin, Robert Reinhardt, Andre Michelle and several other speakers whose already heavy conference schedule could not previously make it are excited to be able to now attend . You obviously don’t want to miss…

Flash on Tap says thanks to all who bought tickets so far and all the sponsors involved.  It will be a conference well worth everyone’s support.

Description:
The conference will take place in Boston at The Park Plaza Hotel and The Castle from May 28th-30th, 2009. The program is organized around main stage speakers and afternoon presentations—brewed together with beer tasting from some of the region’s premier brewers. Mid-day small talks will take place at the Park Plaza Hotel and will provide attendees with information and inspiration around skill-building, technique, professional growth and creativity. Daily lunch will be provided. Check out more information on the speakers and topics at www.flashontap.com.

If you will be attending please post a fot banner: http://www.flashontap.com/fot/index.html

Lab for Live Video Streaming with FME 2.5

Friday, September 5th, 2008

There have been some questions about how to set up Live Video Streaming with Influxis.   So here, we are going to walk you through the process.

Perhaps one of the best and most widely used applications to set up live streams is Adobe’s Flash Media Encoder (FME).  You can download FME for free with this link:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/

The Adobe Flash Media Encoder (FME) is an application that allows you to broadcast live streaming video using the Flash Media Server (FMS).  However, it does not allow streaming of pre-recorded video files.  Also, it does not provide a viewing mechanism.  You can use your own video player (such as the Flash FLVPlayback component), or you can download our pre-built application called FMEWebViewer.

FMEWebViewer is designed to work hand-in-hand with the Adobe Flash Media Encoder (FME).  The Adobe FME provides only the admin, or broadcasting, portion.  Our FMEWebViewer allows you to instantly deploy your FME streams on the web.

Here’s how to set it up:
